The breed, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever was developed in Nova Scotia in the early 19th Century to toll (or lure) and retrieve waterfowl. The Toller is a medium-sized, powerful dog. They are very active dogs and they can bee very sucessfull in many dicipline. Eg Conformatin, Obedience, Field Trail, Game tracking, Agility, Therapy Dog, Search and Rescue and Rally Obedienc.
Like any breed, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers face health issues. Eg "Tollersickness", SRMA and HD. But you can consider the toller as a very healthy dog compared to many other breeds. Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) is a genetic eye disease that affects Tollers. But recent discoveries have given Toller breeders a DNA test to help to control this affliction
The toller is loving and playful to his family but he can be reserved with strangers. The Toller is highly intelligent and a strong and able swimmer (loves water). The Toller was bred to retrieve from icy waters and have a water-repellent double coat of medium length and softness with a softer, dense undercoat.
